Global Supplier of Automated Solutions for Contact Lens Production
Task
To automate production within a standalone platform the packaging of contact lens from trays into blisters, dispense saline, de-spool foil and cut foil blanks and heat seal blisters into strip of either 3 or 5 and identify foil with a laser mark – verify the code applied using and off load in stack magazines prior to autoclaving.
The Solution
Utilising a Rockwell I Trak system as the transport device to present tooled carriers between workstations. Blisters are bowl fed via conveyor into a single stream escapement and utilising a 6-axis robot picked by vacuum either 3 or 5 blisters depending on the recipe selected for blister strips.
Contact lens are loaded to the module in matrix tray stacks – a second 6-axis robot picks and places either 3 or 5 lenses into the blisters prior to the dispense of saline. A press tool with an interchangeable 3 or 5 impression punch and dies profile cuts the foil into strips which have been despoiled and strip fed. The foil is heat sealed utilising a profiled heat platen and laser marked with a 2D data matrix code.
